Fiji

We left LA on Wednesday, Dec. 28th at 9pm and landed in Fiji at 6 am on Friday, Dec. 30th. Fiji is 18 hours ahead of Ontario time.

After a 11 1/2 hour flight and 90 minute drive we arrived at the Naviti Resort

Bula!!

Throughout our entire stay everyone greeted us with “bula” all day and every day. It means wishing you good health. Bula!

The first few days at the resort we battled jet lag. We slept a lot and even missed dinner the first 2 nights because we were sleeping by 4 pm.  And then we would wake up with grumbly tummies waiting for breakfast to start at 7 am.

Happy New Year

New Year’s Eve was our second day at the resort. Paul and I woke up briefly during the fireworks display to look out our window. We rang in the new year thinking about our family and friends back home by celebrating at 6 pm on New Year’s Day.

morning walks around the resort

The weather was mainly hot and humid so we spent a lot of our time by the pool swimming. Atticus ate a lot of ice cream, I enjoyed eating papaya and Paul loved the beer, Fiji Gold. We went kayaking and did a coral viewing boat ride in a glass bottom boat. Unfortunately there was not a lot to see due to climate change and pollution the coral was mostly dead.

high tide late morning to noon

One of our favourite activities during low tide was looking for crabs and then making a track in the sand to see them race. Don’t worry, no crabs or human fingers were injured in this process.

Fiji Time

We are on vacation therefore let’s embrace “Fiji time”. On the island everyone seemed to live by the rule of no timelines, no rushing and no watching the clocks. Paul says it’s just an excuse to be late. Fiji time meant service was not always prompt and scheduled activities might start later but I believe vacation or not, I think everyone can take advantage of embracing living at this moment. As the Fijians would say, “Life is to be lived, not rushed.”
