Need a Dr in Western Australia? Yep, there is an app for that…

So I awoke with a rash on my arm the other morning… I was able to self-diagnose myself with the help of Google and the prognosis was not good (yes, it was also wrong and I knew it!)…

However being new in country I thought I better get checked out. Our exchange partner’s parents (who have been great!) called and got me an appointment straight away. I was shocked! I love my GP but so do 2500? or so other people so I’m use to waiting 3 weeks to see him. Not so here, they called and were almost upset no appointments were available for 3 hours. Yep 3 hours!

I arrived at the office and was greeted by a familiar routine, the old paper “fill out both sides, please” and of course a clipboard.  After passing it in and heading for the waiting room I was sent a txt with a link to Western Australia’s Health Engine App. From the application you can book appointments for pretty much any medical service, many for the same day! (searching for any GP below 2.1 kms away and could have got an appointment in 27 minutes).

Very well organized compared to Ontario at least, centralized health records that you can grant Dr’s access to, all E-health was supposed to do for us but actually done and working! I’m sure many of you have had to listen to me complain about the waste at our local hospital… So Great job WA!

Anyways, I have fleas, haha…. Got a bites at the beach…. Now, parks at the beach, great job again WA, I’ll explain later..

Paul, this is great to read! Finding an efficient, easy to use system, somewhere in the world sends hope our way! Glad to hear it was only fleas, too.
